HOME BUILDERS SAFETY ALLIANCE

The Maryland-National Capital Building Industry Association, together with several national and volume builders in the Greater Washington region, formed the Maryland Home Builders Safety Alliance (MHBSA) and established a partnership with the Maryland Department of Labor, Licensing and Regulation and Maryland Occupational Safety and Health (MOSH). The Agreement establishing the Alliance and Partnership was signed on March 10, 2006.

The goal of the Alliance is to foster a safer and more healthful work environment in the residential construction industry including outreach to the non-English speaking workforce.  Working together MHBSA and MOSH will seek to facilitate and conduct at least four hours of formal training for various trade industries including masonry, framing, siding, and roofing with a focus on falls, electric shock, "struck by", and "caught in";  AND will collaboratively create and disseminate informational safety materials for English and non-English speaking workers focusing on hazards involved with siding installation.

The following building firms are current members of the Alliance (founding members are denoted with an *) :

BEAZER HOMES CORPORATION*

CLARK REALTY BUILDERS*

K. HOVNANIAN HOMES/MARYLAND & DELAWARE REGIONS*

NVR, INC.

WINCHESTER HOMES*

Working together under the umbrella of the Alliance, these builders seek to expand the knowledge base of construction site safety, share effective strategies and provide guidance through the development and dissemination of safety and health information.   For additional information contact the Alliance Chair Larry Freiert of Winchester Homes
